In social media rash, Trump demands new election or immediate reinstatement

Donald Trump, who said two weeks ago “that the temperature must be lowered” in this country, the door to peaks that would explode the thermometer.

He went on what we’d call an angry tweet storm, if he were still on Twitter, spreading three dozen posts and reposts on his much smaller Truth Social app.

One of the reposts was from Q’Anon, although the former president may not have realized it.

But more astonishing than Trump’s attacks on Joe Biden – pictured as if he’s soiled his pants – RINO Republicans and of course the Fake News Media is his sudden embrace of what had been the most marginal of fringe positions within Trump World.

WITH TALK OF RIOTING, TRUMP PROBE MOVES INTO EXPLOSIVE TERRITORY

Seizing on Mark Zuckerberg’s admission that Facebook deleted the story from Hunter Biden’s laptop after he was tipped off by the FBI for ‘Russian disinformation’ – the New York Post story was accurate, though it took more than a year for the rest of the media to confirm this – Trump writes that “THE FBI BURIED HUNTER BIDEN’S LAPTOP STORY BEFORE THE ELECTION.” He says he would have won if he had gone out, although that is more than debatable given that Joe Biden won an additional 7 million votes.

Then Trump drops the gavel: “REMEDY: Declare the legitimate winner, or, and that would be the minimal solution, declare the 2020 election irretrievably compromised and call a new election, immediately!”

And just in case anyone missed the point, there was this: “The presidential election was BADLY and IRREPARABLY BLEACHED by the FBI’s false depiction of the laptop from hell to FB and Lamestream media Declare the legitimate winner, or hold a new election NOW!”

Time for a little reality check.

There is no provision in the Constitution to void an election and hand the loser to the White House. There is also no provision for declaring a new election in the middle of the winner’s term. Who, exactly, would make this happen by magic? Congress? The Supreme Court?

Trump also stirred things up by essentially calling for an uprising at the FBI.

“When are the big agents, and others, of the FBI going to say ‘we’re not going to put up with it anymore,’ just like they did when James Comey read a list of all of Crooked Hillary Clinton’s crimes” but didn’t ‘not prosecute.’ The great people at the FBI have gone absolutely ‘crazy.'” Perhaps we need a reminder that the office is run by Chris Wray, the Trump appointee .

INCORRECT LEAKS OF JUSTICE SET OFF A BOMB STORY AT TRUMP’S CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS CACHE

Conservative media largely shun Trump’s latest posts, which play a huge role on MSNBC. On the other hand, I didn’t see it on the front page of The New York Times or The Washington Post yesterday.

Could much of the media dismiss this as Trumpian bluster? The former president is known for attacking people and promoting himself in hyperbolic terms. Maybe he’s being treated like an eccentric uncle who had wild theories at dinner.

But it’s serious business, and not just because the 45th president is under criminal investigation by the Justice Department. Virtually every Republican, publicly or privately, wants the midterm elections to be about inflation and Biden’s failures. But since the search for Mar-a-Lago, they have been operating in an environment in which Trump, once again, dominates media coverage.

Now that he is asking to be reinstated, it becomes more difficult to prevent the 2022 election from being inextricably linked to Trump’s grievances over 2020.

This thermometer gets quite hot.
