The San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) hosts the second annual School Social Work Awards in recognition of the school social work profession.

Register now for the event, which is scheduled for March 10 via Zoom from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. It will take place during National School Social Work Week, which runs from March 6-12. The event is open to all teachers. Participation is free, but registration is compulsory.

During this event, SDCOE will shine a spotlight on the incredible work of school social workers who balance resilience, passion, and perseverance while simultaneously serving students, families, and staff members in county districts and schools. San Diego. The theme for this year’s event is Ignite Your Sparkle: Passion, Perseverance, and Purpose.

The program will include opening remarks from the County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Paul Gothold, and other SDCOE leaders, as well as comments from other school social workers and county leaders.

It will end with the recognition of six people as school social workers of the year in the following fields: social worker in elementary, middle and high school; administrative school social worker; a school social work intern; and the Trailblazer Award, given to a retired school social worker or a college professor in the School of Social Work. National School Social Work Week is celebrated the first full week of March each year. This is an opportunity to recognize the profession of school social work and the vital role that school social workers play in the lives of students, administrators, teachers, parents and the community.

Initiated by the School Social Work Association of America, this year’s theme is Time to Shine.

Show your appreciation for your school social worker! Here are some ideas:

  • Send personal cards/emails to thank them for their work.
  • Create a website/newsletter article and social media posts to showcase your school social worker.
  • Encourage teachers to make a special announcement to recognize them.
  • Follow SDCOE on social media and share the event and throughout the week using #schoolsocialworkSD and #SSWWeek2022.
