Lisa Durden be honored with the Community Service Award for her tireless commitment to giving voice to the neglected and underserved
NEW YORK, August 2, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — August 4e, Newark NJ native, Lisa Durden, social justice journalist, award-winning filmmaker, content creator and multi-hyphenate media maker will be honored at the Women in Media-from Newark (WIM-N) 13th International Women’s Film Festival, for her tireless commitment to giving voice to the underserved and neglected in our community. Lisa Durden is the founder of Lisa Durden Unlimited Productions, a multimedia company, specializing in content development for film, television, streaming and live audiences, with a focus on compelling storytelling. She recently completed her Masters of Fine Arts in Social Documentary Film, from the New York one School of Visual Artswith the goal of teaching the next generation of media makers.
Lisa is also a national media contributor, committed to shaping stories that speak to the diversity of underserved communities, not just trauma. Lisa is well known as a brilliant outspoken social justice journalist, thought leader and voice of the people., whether she’s producing award-winning films on issues that matter to the black community, or being seen as a contributor on national platforms as high as – Revolt TV‘s’Black News Revolt;’ fox soul‘s’Being Black with Tammi Mac;’ SCS‘ The Dr Oz Show; #APlusPanel Donor on #TheOpinionZone for the old Chasing News Series on the My9 Network; and ‘The African American Leaders Forum,’ to name a few.
Lisa has dedicated her life’s work to holding those in power accountable to highlight diverse perspectives and experiences within the black community. Whether it’s the story of a vibrant new black mayor of a big city with a bright political future, like the then mayor Cory Bookerwhere Lisa was associate producer of the award-winning film Peabody, Prime-Time Emmy nominee and NAACP Image, Sundance Channel‘s, docuseries, brick town 1or Director of the powerful short documentary film, girls matterwhich showcases young girls in a positive light, which also won Best Animation at the Tokyo International Short Film Festival ’21 – because it is its belief, representation matters!
As WINNER of the 2021 Lightbeam TV National Pitch Competition at the African American Women In Cinema International Film Festival, Lisa is currently leading the production of ‘blind divas‘, the highly anticipated documentary that explores the life of Krystle Allen and Naquela Wright-Prevoetwo black women, entrepreneurs, determined to challenge stigma and stereotypes about the blind community.
