Minister: Bill on the profession of social work should be tabled in Parliament this year

The law will enable recognition of the social work profession through registration and certification of regulated practice by the Council for the Social Work Profession

Rina said the ministry gathered inputs and views from various ministries, government departments, professional bodies, academics and people with experience in the social work profession while drafting the PKS Bill.

As for Bella, the teenager with Down syndrome, Rina said the 13-year-old’s health and emotional state had improved. Rina had previously visited the teenager at the Welfare Department Welfare Home in Seremban, Negri Sembilan, together with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“Alhamdulillah, Bella looks healthy now. She seemed safe to mingle with the other residents,” Rina said.

Bella’s story is one of alleged neglect and abuse by Rumah Bonda founder Siti Bainun Ahd Razali. The case has caught the attention of Malaysians and legal proceedings related to the case are ongoing.

On the “Ziarah Kasih” program today, Rina presented R Theanmoli, 40, with a letter of approval for federal assistance under the Financial Assistance Program for Caregivers of Bedridden, Disabled Patients (OKU) and chronically ill RM500 per month plus daily necessities and medical items.

The story of Theanmoli, who suffers from diabetes, asthma and obesity, came to light following a local newspaper article about the difficulties she faced raising her two children, aged five to seven years, after being abandoned by her husband four years ago. . — Bernama
