Solidaridad Networks, Ethiopian office, implemented a LISEC green jobs project aimed at strengthening social cohesion by supporting local economic and social development initiatives.
This project, implemented with partner organizations, will particularly benefit women and young people living in the Modjo region of Ethiopia. To achieve this objective, the project office in Ethiopia seeks to engage with world-renowned international research, academic and training institutions to outsource certain activities. Solidaridad looks forward to working with you in the areas listed in these Terms of Reference (ToR).
This is a mandate for an overseas based international research and/or training institution to provide practical training on the utilization of tannery waste and conversion into valuable product(s) for selected leather experts.
Background
With 50 years of global experience in facilitating the development of socially responsible, environmentally sound and profitable supply chains, Solidaridad is a forerunner in the field of sustainable economic development. Solidaridad is a global civil society organization that provides market-driven solutions for sustainable production practices in different supply chains. We envision a world in which everything we produce and everything we consume can sustain us while respecting the planet, each other and future generations.
Our mission is to bring supply chain players together and engage them with innovative solutions to improve production, ensuring the transition to a sustainable and inclusive economy that maximizes benefits for all stakeholders. Solidaridad Ethiopia is currently implementing initiatives in cotton, textiles, leather and coffee in collaboration with the Ethiopian government and private sector partners and stakeholders.
Solidaridad established a country office in Ethiopia in November 2015 under registration number 3531. The office re-registered on July 11, 2019, under OSC proclamation 1113/2019. Currently, Solidaridad Ethiopia, along with two other members of the consortium, is undertaking an EU-funded project called LISEC-JOBS. The main objective of the project is to strengthen social cohesion by supporting local economic and social development initiatives, in particular for women and young people living in the Modjo region, and to improve industrial and labor relations.
The specific objectives of the project are: to improve skills and access to decent and green employment opportunities for young people/women and neighboring communities around the leather industries, to improve the capacities of tanneries and other leather actors in waste management and manufacturing practices and improve social cohesion in Modjo and neighboring communities.
In order to achieve the broader objective of the project initiatives, the Solidaridad Network office in Ethiopia is currently working to strengthen the overall technical knowledge and understanding of key project stakeholders and beneficiaries on theories, best practices and other elements and/or aspects of tannery solid waste management and its transformation into valuable products.
To this end, the project office in Ethiopia seeks to engage world-renowned research and/or academic (training) institutes to carry out a detailed training needs assessment and, based on the assessment, conduct training. tailor-made trainers (ToT) in order to enrich the knowledge and skills of the main industrial operators and leather processing experts.
